Thermocouple Hot Junction Welding Machine
 

This machine is suitable to weld the Hot Junction of a SIMPLEX / DUPLEX / TRIPLEX grounded and ungrounded Mineral Insulated (MI) thermocouples of various types ranging from 1 mm to 8 mm. Oxidization dose not take place as the welding process takes just few milliseconds. The use of ARGON inert gas for pre weld and post weld times does not allow the junction to oxidize at all. The welding is done by stored energy, rater than the current, making the weld as a beautiful bright bulb.

A Capacitor bank is charged to the required voltage, which is monitored digitally on a voltmeter, depending upon the Energy requirements, which is according to the size and type of thermocouple wires. Two more additional capacitor banks can be added for thick wires. Actuation of the START switch purges Argon gas to the junction for predefined time, (pre-welding) the ARC is struck and the capacitors are discharged. The heavy discharging current flows through the joint fusing the same, forming a bulb, completing the welding. The Argon continues to flow for predefined time (post weld time) cooling the thermocouple, and is at room temperature. Same procedure is adopted for Duplex / Triplex Thermocouples, with the adjustment of torch.

The thermocouple is prepared and adjusted properly, in a Holder. A special fixture, retains the Welding torch and can be moved in both X and Y direction with Lead screw type of precise arrangement, for accurate positioning, for welding Simplex, Duplex, Triplex and Quadruple thermocouples. The UP / DOWN movement with lock allows the torch movement vertically. All these facilities makes the welding of DUPLEX / TRIPLEX / QUADRAPLE Thermocouples without any removal of the same, during welding. A crocodile Clip, which is used to connect the other end of the thermocouple, forms the second electrode. A gap of about 0.5-to1.0 mm is adjusted between the junction and torch to avoid any contamination of the welding electrode. Welding dose not take place, if the torch touches the junction.

The provision is made to put Microscope for inspection. The unit works on 230 / 110 V AC mains.
